Introducing The Laurent Ferrier Galet Minute Repeater School Piece

Today we have an early look at Laurent Ferrier's first minute repeater. Laurent Ferrier is a brand whose technical capabilities, world-class finishing, and spot-on design have been well documented here and elsewhere. The brand's namesake founder was technical director of Patek Philippe for 37 years, and he has dabbled in complications high and low, making a GMT, a tourbillon, and an annual calendar, to name just three watches created under his own name. Now we see the brand's first ever-minute repeater, and it comes in a beautiful stainless steel Galet case paired with a warm salmon-colored dial. What a great combination white metal cases and a salmon dials make! Am I right? With a watch like this though, it's really all about how it sounds and Laurent Ferrier opted for a stainless steel case because of its superior acoustic properties and the light and clear tone it produces. 

Without hearing it for oneself, it's tough to make an informed opinion about any chiming watch. But I will say that given Laurent Ferrier's track record – both at his own company and in his previous post – he seems to have an almost perfect pitch for making tasteful watches that get it right (pun totally intended). It's interesting to note that in the construction of the highly complex caliber made to power this watch, Ferrier has eschewed the Natural Escapement seen in so many of his watches, and which has become an expected signature to an LF design, in favor of a conventional Swiss Lever escapement. Nevertheless, as you can see in the caseback picture here, the finishing is everything that you'd expect from a watch from Laurent Ferrier.
