What We Know
With Geneva Watch Days kicking off tomorrow, Tudor has taken the opportunity to launch a new iteration of the Black Bay Chrono. This time, it's a boutique edition with a richly blue dial and bezel.
All of the specs and technical details are unchanged from the several other iterations of the Black Bay Chrono, so that means a 41mm steel case that is 14.4mm thick and 49.8mm lug-to-lug. The bezel is fixed with an aluminum insert, the water resistance is 200 meters, and the "Blue Boutique" comes fitted to a steel five-link bracelet with T-Fit.
Inside we find the same MT 5813 movement that Tudor has used in past iterations of the Black Bay Chrono. It's a 4 Hz automatic movement with a vertical clutch and a column wheel that is based on the Breitling B01 and offers 70 hours of power reserve, a date at six, and a 45-minute total measure for the chronograph.
The Black Bay Chrono Blue Boutique Edition has a list price of $5,675 and will be available at select Tudor boutiques worldwide.
What We Think
To be entirely transparent, if you had asked me if there was a blue Black Bay Chrono, it would have taken me five seconds to be completely sure of my answer. It's just such a classic colorway and one that Tudor often uses early on in a model run (Heritage Chrono Blue, Black Bay Blue, Tudor FXD MN21, etc). And while it's essentially a default character in the Tudor lineup, this is the first time we're getting a blue iteration of the Black Bay Chrono, and I think it looks great. It is less severe than the black, and I think, more subtle than the white dial.
But that's essentially the story here; it's the same Black Bay Chrono, but now they are making a blue version. The coloring looks to be medium-dark with a sunray finish, silver subdials, and a couple of small red accents. On whole, it's a great – if predictable – look for the BB Chrono, and I really like the inclusion of the tapered five-link (with T-Fit) to round out the steel/blue look.
Stay tuned this week as this is far from the only new release that is going to come out over the next few days.
