What We Know
H. Moser is releasing a pair of limited edition "passion fruit" watches, one in collaboration with young U.K. brand Studio Underd0g. The Endeavour Perpetual Calendar Passion Fruit builds on the brand's familiar platform, while the Studio Underd0g Passion Fruit 03Series brings a monopusher chronograph to the collection. Only available as a set, the Passion Fruit pair will be a limited run of 100 pieces.
The passion fruit pair plays with the tropical fruit's deep purple and bright yellow colors. While the Endeavour Perpetual uses Moser's now-familiar minimal perpetual calendar format, the 03Series Chronograph is a surprise collaboration with Studio Underd0g and its founder, Richard Benc.
Following on last year's 02Series Field Watch, the 03Series sees the brand leveling up again with a monopusher chronograph powered by the Sellita SW510 M, a manual-wind caliber with a 63-hour power reserve. It has a multilayer dial that the collaborators call a "coarse dégradé amber and royal purple." There's a pusher above the crown at two o'clock and a running seconds at nine o'clock, opposite the purple 30-minute counter at three o'clock. The Sellita movement is visible through a sapphire caseback. The look is similar to Studio Underd0g's first series of chronographs, but with a bit of H. Moser's paring back – no logos here. The brands say that each passion fruit has a touch of green to represent the seed of the passion fruit, and here it's on the tip of the chronograph seconds hand.
Alongside the Studio Underd0g collab, H. Moser has also released a take on the Endeavour Perpetual Calendar. The dial features purple lacquer and grand feu enamel, familiar from previous iterations of the Endeavour Perpetual. It uses Moser's manufacture caliber HMC 800. We spent A Week On The Wrist with Moser's innovative perpetual back in 2015 and covered the tantalum take just last year, so I want to belabor how it all works (though it's summarized in the specs below). It's a fun, minimal, and design-first take on the perpetual calendar.
The new passion fruit editions are limited to 100 pieces and only being sold as a pair for a price of $64,900.
What We Think
Oh man, I loved these as soon as I saw them – especially the Studio Underd0g chronograph. And then I got to that last bit. Only being sold as a set? Come on, guys! It takes what would've been a fun and accessible watch – the most accessible Moser – and turns it into a party gift only for those who can already swing a Moser perpetual calendar.
That said, I'm still excited about the collab. Now on its third wave of releases, Studio Underd0g has continued to move upmarket in an exciting way and prove that it's not a one- or two-trick pony. I enjoyed its take on the field watch last year, and now we have its take on a Moser.
Meanwhile, Moser continues to be a breath of fresh air for the Swiss watch industry. H. Moser and Studio Underd0g are a match made in design heaven. Studio Underd0g is young, fun, and affordable, a perfect match for Moser's tongue-in-cheek minimalism. Years ago, H. Moser's schtick – backed up by real Swiss watchmaking, to be clear – was one of the most refreshing things in the watch industry. Nowadays, Studio Underd0g is among the crop of up-and-comers who have taken that torch.
I hope these 100 chronographs, surely already (or mostly) off to clients, aren't the last time these two get together.
